NB Negligent Pet Owner in Alberta

We received the following letter today about a woman from New Brunswick against whom the Crown is expected to issue charges for the deaths of two dogs and a rabbit as well as the abuse of a dehydrated and starved cat who were in her care — at least until she went on vacation out of the country. Seems that maybe her vacation meant more to her than her responsibilities as a pet owner.

I have attached a news article from Friday’s paper about a woman who left New Brunswick to avoid being charged with animal abuse. She was living in Harvey Station, I believe it’s just outside of Fredericton.

Before she went on holidays to the Dominican Republic with her ten year old son, one of her dogs died. She just threw it in a garbage bag and left it in her back porch.  She then went on holidays for TWO WEEKS and left behind a small black dog, a cat and a rabbit with no food or water. After six days the neighbours checked on her house since they didn’t see any activity and discovered the dog dead laying on the kitchen floor. They immediately called the RCMP who also found the rabbit dead left in a cage in the barn. Thankfully the cat survived, although just barely.

When she finally returned from her holidays she obviously found out she was wanted by the RCMP so she skipped town within hours of her return and moved to Alberta.

Not only does she think she got away with murder by moving away, what kind of message does this send to her ten year old son!!!

Just thought you might like to know you have another deadbeat animal abuser in Alberta and it will only be a matter of time before her son becomes an abuser as well.

By all means, DO NOT ADOPT AN ANIMAL TO THIS WOMAN!

And please share this information with all the rescue groups/shelters you know.

I think I would prefer to see her get prosecuted to the fullest extent possible. I would like to see her fined and banned from owning another pet for life. Then let her explain that to her kid(s). What a horrible example she has set for a child through her callousness and neglect.

What newspaper is this from? I’d like to share but will not without a link back to the official source. My local discussion group, where I found the initial image of the article are also wondering where it was published.

It sounds like her animals were in dire straights before she went on holiday. Too bad none of the neighbors noticed. This woman sounds pretty sick.

As much as this is appauling I think the writer of this blog should take a moment and think about what she is saying about this 10 year old son? “and it will only be a matter of time before her son becomes an abuser as well.” I feel bad for these Animals but you are condemning this kid who you dont know to becoming an abuser himself! And you wonder why kids bully these days? WAKE UP!

Given the example this young man’s mother is showing him, I can understand the letter writer’s concern. They say “there’s two sides to every story and the truth lies somewhere in between.” Meaning we do not know why she left her animals unattended to die a slow death, but she certainly knew she did wrong when she fled the province upon her return. What explanation did she give her son for that behavior? What example did she set by leaving her pets alone as she did?

Her son hasn’t had a chance with this loser since the day he was born. How will he know any different with living with her all these years. Treats her animals like she treats her children. (Oh ya…my mistake..only kept one out the four or five she had) Never been held accountable for anything in her life….wake up and nail this waste of skin!

lock her in a cage for the same amount of time in the middle of a mall so others can show no compassion either..
